Wetland & Woodland Patch

Volunteers after a workday at the patchThe Vision: to create a well managed and accessible woodland and wetland, rich in biodiversity, for the education and enjoyment of the local community.

Mossy logs in the patchWe are undertaking a long-term project to improve the wildlife and amenity value of the small site between Blackford Pond and the Midmar allotments known as the Friends’ Local Woodland & Wetland Patch.

We organise practical conservation work days and keep ongoing records of the wildlife and flora in the patch - if you see anything interesting in the site please let us know!

If you go down to the woods today...

Wetland Patch Update!

Keen spotters will have observed two fine specimens of a hitherto unseen species in the wetland patch - a pair of very smart black recycled plastic benches, worth around £260 each. Try them out for size - they are extremely comfortable! These were installed on Wednesday 11 February by Rob and Jeff and the guys from the Osprey Company, who you may remember also supplied the welcome and interpretation boards for the patch. We hope that the benches will encourage people to linger a little longer in our little wetland and woodland oasis and appreciate the beauty and serenity of the site.

For more information on this exciting and ambitious project, or better still to find out how you can get involved, contact Jeff at patch@fohb.org.
