The Hermitage of Braid & Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve

The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve is an area of natural beauty in Edinburgh, Scotland, managed by City of Edinburgh Forestry and Natural Heritage.

The objectives of the Friends of the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill are:

  1. To conserve and enhance the landscape, biodiversity, and sustainable use of the Reserve.
  2. To engage and involve the local community in environmental issues and action, through information exchange, education and practical activities.

Friends of the Hermitage is a recognised charity governed by an agreed constitution.


Visitors

Visitors are very welcome in the Reserve, but in the interests of wildlife and other visitors please observe the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. In particular:

  • please keep your dogs under control and clean up after them
  • please do not overfeed the birds and take your litter away with you

Accessibility

This map shows the paths which can be easily enjoyed by wheelchair and pushchair users:

  • around Blackford Pond
  • between Braid Road and Hermitage House, and on towards the Scout Bridge
  • between the Observatory carpark and the radio mast
